| Happy Lunar New
Year! |
CSLI
helped students ring in another new year, the Asian new lunar
year, with an old Chinese tradition.
Students who said “Gung Hay Fat Choy” or “Shin
Nen Kwai Luh”, the Chinese New Year expressions, were
awarded with a lucky red envelope. Inside were lottery tickets,
that did indeed bring lucky winnings to several students.
Our wishes for a prosperous new year goes out to our Asian colleagues
and clients. |
| Cupid's Arrow Strikes Again |
Valentine's Day is always a big celebration at
CSLI. Students, teachers, and staff purchased Valentine's cards
for their friends (and more!) at the school, and a chocolate
'kiss' was attached. On Valentine's Day at break time, the school
lobby walls and windows were covered with the Valentine's greetings.
With the many love relationships that have started at CSLI,
you never know what that Valentine's card could start...

| And the Oscar goes to… |
Our February Graduation celebration was our much-anticipated
Oscar Graduation Gala. Students and staff were dressed
to the nines for this classy event, which celebrated not
only our departing students but also those who shone in
certain categories: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director,
Best Sound Effects...
After celebrating our graduating students, students of
the class, we presented our Student of the Month award:
Danilo from Brazil was awarded a one-month full-time scholarship
to study at CSLI. |
 |

|
Then, the gala began...
With the votes having been made earlier in the week, the
Oscars were presented to the winners in each category.
While Taryn was our brilliant and hilarious Master of
Ceremonies, presentation and acceptance speeches by students
showed their great fluency in English and public speaking
skills.
We then went off to a popular nightclub for drinks and
dancing... An exciting time was had by all! |

| Delicious Delights |
There's always something to tickle your tastebuds
at CSLI. Our Thursday Theme Night dinners have continued to
introduce students to their classmates' native foods. February
saw Chinese, Mexican, and Indian nights. Also, with Food as
the topic in several Practical English classes, students had
taste tests of international foods to practice their vocabulary
in describing food. Next month's theme nights will be Venezuelan,
Canadian, and French.

| New Programme-Power Speaking |
An
exciting new class is starting at CSLI - the Power Speaking
Programme. This course is designed for Intermediate level students
who want to improve their English communication skills, with
an emphasis on speaking. Students will be responsible for researching
presentation topics, preparing summaries, and leading class
discussions. Their participation in class will allow them to
improve their word choice and sentence structure, as well as
their confidence in speaking in English.
|
| Fun-filled Fridays |
Friday
activities continue to allow students to participate in various
activities around Vancouver and improve their English.
February’s fun-filled events included tours of Whistler,
Stanley Park, and Chinatown, as well as ice skating, dessert
making, candle making, and several academic classes. March is
another funfilled month that will see creative activities like
pottery painting and cocktail making, academic options like
Conditionals and Prepositions, and tours of Science World, Lynn
Valley, India Town, and BC Sports Hall of Fame.

|
| What do you know about Canada,
eh? |
Our monthly contest for February was our Canadian
Trivia Contest. Students prepared for several weeks by learning
useful (and some less useful) information about Canada: sports
teams, populations, lake names, and other. Students had to pair
up and find the answers to questions posted all over the school.
The winner was Team Japan - Emi Kota and Yusuke Hirano. Congratulations
to all the participants and winners!

| Look Who's Talking |
Hi every body at CSLI, my memorable
former school in Vancouver.
I hope everybody is doing well over there. I want to let
you know that I already moved to Halifax in Eastern Canada
on Dec 31, 2006 in order to pursue my academic study at Dalhousie
University. Despite the fact that Halifax is such a beautiful
city and that people here are so nice, I miss Vancouver, my
friends, and CSLI so much. Moreover, I believe that there
is no place around the globe that has what Vancouver has,
whether it’s that sense of beauty or multiculturalism.
I still remember every day at CSLI and how all people at
this spectacular institution were so reliable, generous, and
kind. All the classes that I have attended contributed to
improving my English skills, my attitude towards my life,
and even my personality. All my teachers at CSLI, Mark, Mark
Aaron, Joy, Cynthia, Adrian, Christine, Heather, Nicole, Nadia,
were well trained, and they really know what every international
student wants in terms of improving his/her English skills
in a friendly atmosphere.
Besides, at CSLI, I had a marvelous chance to get along with
many students; therefore, I have many friends all over the
world: from Korea, Japan, Thailand, Germany, Brazil, Mexico,
Spain, Switzerland, Canada, Turkey, etc. That gave me a remarkable
opportunity not only to have many friends but also to know
and experience many cultures and backgrounds – that
was really interesting.
Finally, I would like to say that I really miss Vancouver
and all my unforgettable and glorious moments at CSLI which
still stick in my memory even though I am far away from my
lovely Vancouver. Please feel free to contact me by e-mailing
or phoning me, and I promise I will keep in touch with you.
Thank you all and I wish you the best of luck.
Sincerely ,,
Akram , Saad
