| A day at the park |
The hot, sunny weather and Vancouver's beautiful David Lam Park provided the ideal backdrop for our monthly graduation party.
In a lovely setting overlooking the water and Vancouver's famous skyline of highrises, we said goodbye to a great many students who were leaving our
school. We then celebrated our Students of the Class by presenting them with medals, followed by the Student of the Month for the whole
school
.
Timo Hunzinger from Germany won this prestigious award, which will provide him with four more weeks of full-time
study at CSLI - congratulations, Timo!
|
We then served our students a delicious lunch of chicken wings, potatoes, salad,
and strawberries. Lots of games and fun followed for several hours, leading into a beautiful sunny weekend.

| You don't say! |
CSLI's Idioms contest was a barrel of laughs as competing students sought to win over their classmates' knowledge of English
expressions. The level was challenging, and even advanced students had a tough time in keeping up with the difficult
expressions. At the end of the day, Ai Ogiwara from Japan was the winner, beating out many more advanced students with her
great knowledge of idioms. Congratulations to all the participants and winner! Coming up in June - the great CSLI Spelling Bee!

| Sizzlin' Summer at CSLI |
The weather's warming up in Vancouver, and it's looking like it will be a wonderful summer. At CSLI, things are also warming
up as our student population expands to include groups from Thailand, Turkey, and Quebec.

| Study Skills |
Television and movies can provide a great way to practice your English: you can enjoy a story as you listen to native
pronunciation, learn vocabulary and idioms, and practice your comprehension skills. One great way to use video is to watch a
program more than once - if there are captions, use them the second time you watch, not the first. Aim to catch as much of the
story and details the first time you watch; if there is vocabulary you don't know, you can write down what you hear. If you watch it
the second time with captions, you can check what you wrote with what the captions show. You can also improve your vocabulary by
searching for words of things that you see in the program. If you see some equipment or an action that you couldn't explain in
English, look it up in your two-language dictionary to find the English word. Learning English doesn't have to be challenging -
you can do it while having fun too!
|
| Expanding our culture |
We are delighted to have our first students from Tibet studying with us at CSLI. Gyalten Rimpoche and his brother Lama have
joined us to improve their English.

Mr. Rimpoche was the subject of the award-winning 2004 documentary movie,
"Call It Karma", that explored his 1000-mile spiritual pilgrimage through Nepal and India. He has established a
Buddhist center in Vancouver, and CSLI and our student population feel honoured to have him in our school to share his
cultural richness.

| Meet your friends on Facebook |
Our students make lots of friends from all over the world and make an effort to stay in touch - we can see how many reunions take place in their
home countries as well as overseas. Now, through the internet site Facebook, you have an easy way to reconnect with all of your CSLI friends.
We have started a CSLI group on Facebook, which you can use to find other friends who studied at CSLI when you were here, or even meet some who you
don't know. All you need to do is create an account at http://www.facebook.com and then join the group "CSLI Alumni."
The sooner you join, the sooner you can find your friends again!

| Look who's talking (Tomo) |
Hello everybody, what have you guys been up to?
From 14th of February to 14th of March, I traveled through Germany and Switzerland with my girlfriend Tamara, to visit our friends.
We visited 7 cities (Cologne, Essen, Frankfurt, Ulm, Munich, Zurich, Bern) and 14 friends from CSLI
(Anja, Oksana, Kathrin, Christoph, Masa, Tabea, Mich, Tobi, Mario, Christian, Corsin, Livia, Doris, Cornelia).
We had such a wonderful time and party in every single city and with every single friend. We all talked about the stuff from
Vancouver and looked at pictures. All of us were saying, "I want to go back to Canada" and "I miss the time we spent at CSLI".
Some of them even said that it was the best time in their life. I say so, too. It was the best time and the greatest experience
I've ever had, and I really appreciate that I could have wonderful moments and all the opportunities and everything,
to Lori-Ann and Lawrence, all the teachers, and front-desk staff, all of my friends!!!!
I hope, someday, I can visit my second hometown Vancouver again, and my second home CSLI!!!
Stay happy,
Peace,
Tomo.
