| Spooky Grad |
Our annual Halloween Grad
Party was a huge hit!
Students spent a long time and lots of effort getting dressed up their imaginative
costumes. The winner of the $100 cash prize for the best
costume was Ms. Ursula Engert from Germany. After lots of picture-taking and dressing up, we said goodbye
to our graduating students and congratulated the best student of each class with
a medal.

We then awarded the Student of the Month award to Emi
Kamei of Japan - she wins
a one-month scholarship to continue her studies at CSLI.
We then went to a nightclub
where we danced the night away along with other costume-clad Canadians. |

| Listening and
Pronunciation is one of CSLI's most popular programs. Our energetic teacher Nicolle
works hard at transcribing radio news broadcasts so that students can download
their lessons onto mp3s or CDs to practice their listening and vocabulary while
keeping up-to-date with current events in Canada. The class also features Wednesday
Friends, when the class focuses on an episode of the popular TV show Friends,
allowing the students to have a laugh while learning some idiomatic English.
Pronunciation practice is for an hour of class every day. This intensive but
enjoyable class enables students to improve their English very quickly - but
it requires dedication. |

More
fun than a barrel of monkeys
Our Idioms Contest on October 25th was
a blast! Students had burned the candle at both ends preparing for the contest
and were all fired up. Over 20 students took part, giving definitions, making
sentences, and deciding if idioms were being used correctly.
Everyone did brilliantly,
but when push came to shove, the winner was Moe Adachi! Congratulations to Moe
and all the great participants. Stay tuned for next month's contest!

| Delicious Delights |
As the days get shorter, the
food gets more delicious! Students are turning out in droves for the delicious
dinners at our weekly Theme Nights. Our student of the month in August, Eisuke
Yamada organized Japanese night and over 45 people packed a tiny Japanese restaurant
to eat some hot tasty Okonomiyaki along with beautiful plates of sushi and tempura.
Thank you, Eisuke! Students also tried their hand at Origami, traditional Japanese
paper folding. Upcoming theme nights for November feature a European theme, with
French, German, and Italian nights, plus a Pub Night. |

| Look Who’s Talking |
Our popular teacher Sara, who was with us for the last two years, recently moved to Osaka to teach English. She sent us this letter about a reunion she had with some CSLI students.
Hey everyone!!
I have been thinking about CSLI recently as I just got back from Kyoto with some students who I taught at the school back in 2004!
I first started working at CSLI in August 2004 and my very first class was
amazing! I only taught them for 1 month before they all had to go back home to
Japan. Throughout the last couple of years I have kept in touch with a few of
them and now that I am in Japan we all try to hang out as much as we can.
While we were having dinner in Kyoto, my friend Yumi said how cool it was that we had all met in Vancouver and have maintained a friendship over the last 2 years. She said had she not traveled to Vancouver, she would have never had the opportunity to meet all of us.
The great thing about CSLI is the friendships that are made. They begin in Vancouver and hopefully continue to flourish throughout the years -- nationwide.
Attached is a photo of my husband, me, and 3 students who studied at CSLI in
the summer of 2004.
