Boat Cruise Grad
One of our most anticipated graduation parties took place at the end of May – our Boat Cruise. This is when CSLI rents its own boat so students and teachers can enjoy a scenic cruise around beautiful Vancouver!
First was the graduation ceremony, when we said goodbye to many graduating students, followed by the Student Of The Class medals.
After that came the much-anticipated Student Of The Month award – May’s winner was Ramaroson “Tsiry” Tsiritantely from France, who wins a one-month full-time scholarship to CSLI.
We then set sail from beautiful Granville Island for a beautiful tour under clear skies – lots of music, dancing, and great conversation followed.

| Pronunciation Contest |
On the last day of May, CSLI held its monthly contest – Pronunciation. As all students are concerned with and focused on improving their pronunciation, this contest gave them a great chance to focus on developing this skill. Three lists of challenging words were circulated for a few weeks to give students a chance to prepare. CSLI’s Listening and Pronunciation teacher Nicolle was the perfect host for the contest, and kept standards high, focusing on pronunciation, minimal pairs, and syllable division and stress. The winner was Young Hye Lee, who beat out the very tough competition of over 20 other students, and is the first student at CSLI to win two competitions two months in a row!! Congratulations to all the participants and winners.
In June – phrasal verbs! ! |

| Friday Activities |
Outdoor activities continued to reign in May. Lynn Valley Canyon, Bowen Island tour, Horseback riding, and Hiking gave students a chance to enjoy the wild outdoors.
Academic activities were still on the agenda, with Idioms, TOEIC/TOEFL practice, Grammar, Resume Writing, and Listening classes being well attended. June’s activities will include a combination of academic activities and outdoor events like Shannon Falls, Golfing, Grouse Grind Hike, and Deep Cove Hiking. |

| Hollywood North |
| Vancouver is known as Hollywood North because so many Hollywood movies are made here. The current hit “X-Men 3” was filmed in Vancouver, and several famous actors in currently in Vancouver making other movies. Matthew Perry (from “Friends”), Danny DeVito, Robin Williams, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson…all of them have recently been seen around Vancouver – several of them in CSLI’s trendy neighbourhood of Yaletown! |

CSLI Japanese Reunion
On the 3rd and 4th of May, we had a kind of reunion on the West side of Japan with a lot of people who went to CSLI in 2005. We rented a big log house to do it! 17 people took part; 4 of them came from such far away places such as Okinawa, Chiba, and Tokyo. In fact not everyone knew each other before the reunion. So, to break the ice, we did a lot of things! We played volleyball, made curry rice together, had some games and shot the breeze with lots of drinks until midnight! We had a lot of fun instead of sleeping! When I came up with this plan, I was alone to plan it. But Makoto and Miwa lent me a hand and were so cooperative to make it successful! We spent one month to make a detailed plan. In the end everyone got to be much closer with each other than before. And we decided to have such a plan as often as possible! The fact that we could get to such a big success made me so glad and fulfilled! And I really appreciate that CSLI gave us such good encounters!! We all remember well what we could experience at CSLI!!
Thank you!!!!

CSLI Reunion in Berlin
In May, students from Germany and Switzerland met in Berlin for a CSLI reunion. Jennifer wrote:
I think you already know that our reunion took place in Berlin, Germany from 12th to 14th May. We didn't spent much time visiting the city as most of us have already been there before. Anyway, we had a lot of fun, partied, and already planned the new reunion: it will take place in Wuppertal, Germany around May 2007...:-) |
