| CSLI & The World Cup in Frankfurt |
In early June CSLI directors Lori-Ann and Lawrence Keenan had a reunion near Frankfurt in Germany. A number of former students dating back from 1997 to 2005 met up for a traditional German meal. The Keenans were thrilled to see familiar friendly faces again after so long, a great way to further enjoy their World Cup visit to Germany!
Our former Ambassador of the Year (1998) and agent Reinhold Kremer helped to organize this great event. A prize draw was held for one grad to go to the game with them and lots of other prizes were given – congratulations to Bernhard for his grand prize win! |

| CSLI on Canadian TV News!! |
CSLI is thrilled to have been featured on CBC News all across Canada! A two-minute-forty-second news item focused on international students enjoying the World Cup away from home. Several students were interviewed, as was CSLI’s Listening & Pronunciation teacher Nicolle Bowes, who is also a soccer player. The feature was beautifully produced, and showed the energetic, international flavour of CSLI.

CSLI truly did bring the World Cup into our school life for the month. A viewing room was set up so students could watch their favourite teams play. We also held a penalty shoot-out contest, with different international teams competing and showing off their goal-shooting skills. The winner of our Penalty Shoot Out, the finals of which were held at our graduation party, was Germany!

Spectacular Sunny Grad!
Beautiful Sunset Beach was the setting for our June Graduation Beach Party. We all gathered on the sand by the water to celebrate our departing students. Medals were given for the best student of each class.
This month’s Student of the Month winner was One Woo Nam from Korea, who wins a four-week scholarship to study at CSLI.
After the celebrations, we had a Barbeque lunch and then several sports games (including the CSLI World Cup Penalty Shootout final) and other games. We had hours of fun on this sunny afternoon before our Canada Day weekend!

| Phrasal Verbs Contest |
Our June contest was the very challenging Phrasal Verbs Contest. Phrasal verbs are among the toughest aspects of learning English because there are so many similar combinations with different meanings. A great many students brushed up on their phrasal verbs, and it was a very tight contest. As has happened in the past, it was too close to call, so we had two gracious First Prize winners: Asami Taira and Moe Adachi. Congratulations to all the participants and winners.

| The month of July finds us welcoming three international groups to study with us: one each from Brazil, Turkey, and Quebec! | Japanese Broadcast |
CSLI was the setting for another filming – two different Japanese programs featuring our Vancouver Golden Experience program will be shown on Niigata television and also all across Japan. We will keep you informed when broadcast details are known.

| Look Who’s Talking |
Soo Jean Park graduated very recently, but we were very touched by this letter she wrote to us.
This is Soo Jean. How have you been doing? I hope everything has been well. It was very impressive for me to encounter CSLI's energetic teachers and I was so happy to learn English from them. International cultures as well as English lessons were conveyed to me. In addition, I will never forget your generous attitudes to the international students who have different cultures from yours. I believe that this time in Vancouver will be the most memorable experience in my life.

Mami Mizutani (2002) has been living in Canada for several years and bumped into her former teacher Mark at the ferry terminal in Nanaimo recently.
Hi Mark,
It was great to see you again! I wanted to talk to you more but I was too busy and you had to leave. I don't have a lot of time for myself since Remy arrived but this little baby brings me a lot of happiness and surprises everyday.
Let me know how you are doing and say hello to all the teachers and staff that I know.
