| International
Food Fair |
| CSLI's tastiest grad took place as students
prepared food from their home countries. This is one of our most popular grad
parties, as students are able to share their home culture with their classmates.
This is the ONE day at CSLI when students are allowed to speak their native language
in order to teach others about their language and culture! |

| International Food Fair and 'Tasty
Grad' graduates |

After saying goodbye to our graduating students, we presented awards to the best
students in each class. The Student of the Month Award for the whole school went
to Eliane Kolberg from Germany, who wins a one-month scholarship to continue
her studies at CSLI. Students then sampled their classmates' cooking and culture.
Everyone did a wonderful job, but the winner of the best table - food and overall
presentation - was a tie!!!!
The winners were the team from Thailand and Osama
from Libya.
Congratulations! |

Our contest
for the month of November was a huge success. Our Spelling
Bee Contest had a
number of enthusiastic participants who each received some chocolate and a Spelling
Bee certificate for their participation. After studying very diligently and enduring
many grueling rounds with fellow competitors, 2 students remained. The final
result was a very well-earned second place finish to Jin
Sook from Korea and
a huge congratulations to the winner: Natgamon (Jai) from
Thailand!
Congratulations
to all participants and winners!

| Academic Class |
The Academic Class at CSLI continues
to be a very popular choice for those dedicated students who desire to increase
their vocabulary, practice reading comprehension, and brush-up on their grammar
knowledge. The class revolves around various readings on a number of fascinating
subjects including: the Serengeti, Golf, Photography, the Internet, Laughter,
and Telecommunications. Each class involves a lively warm-up in order to review
vocabulary words and grammar structures already studied, or to preview the subject
for the next reading. Vocabulary is learned by producing lists of synonyms that
serve to give students a wealth of words that they can use in their everyday
conversations. Each day there is also a |
 |
grammar point
with additional grammar supplementary exercises to learn and practice the correct
grammatical structures needed for advanced level conversation and writing. Though
Academic class is challenging and has homework every night, as well as weekly
quizzes, students say it is a very useful and enjoyable class!

| Bring on the
Bratwurst |
| Our theme nights continue to be
among the most anticipated social events at CSLI. November's German Night was
a well-attended event that introduced many of our international students to German
food and beer! Everyone had a great time eating the delicious food that included
the famous Black Forest Cake and drinking the refreshing beer. Students were
also taught how to sing a traditional German folk song. In December, theme nights
will include Italian Night, Thai Night, and Spanish Night! |

| Here Comes Santa
Claus… |
It is that time of year again when
CSLI is planning our big Christmas party. This year's party will be held on Thursday
Dec 21st in the afternoon. The CSLI choir is already in rehearsal and the famous
CSLI actors and actresses have started writing their Academy Award winning play.
We will be having a wonderful turkey lunch and we have just had confirmation
that Santa will be stopping by!!

| Winter Activities |
| As Winter tightens its grip on beautiful
BC, and the snow keeps coming down and the temperature keeps dropping, winter
activities are becoming more popular with our students. November's Ice Skating
Activity was led by Andrew, and lots of students had their first experience with
a sport that is a common winter hobby in Canada. In December, some of our wintery
activities include a Whistler Tour, the Van Dusen Festival of Lights, Christmas
Carol Listening and Pronunciation Class, Christmas Cooking and movie Class, Making
Gingerbread Houses Class, Christmas Cocktail Making Class, the Heritage Christmas
Museum, and the Christmas Train in Stanley Park. Let's have fun in the snow! |

| Look Who’s Talking |
November 8,2006
Dear all staff and teachers of CSLI
Thank you very much for accepting me with open arms.
Though my term was just 2 weeks, I could have a great experience on CSLI.
Your friendly smile and kindly advices made me relaxed and happy. Then all teachers
Were always energetic and classes were also really wonderful. I loved my classes.
I could get lot of great valuable things from CSLI….. living with only English, a lot of
Different countries friends, being broadened my horizons, and so on.
Also Friday activities (I chose the Pumpkin Carving!) and Halloween Party were my first
Experiences and very interesting and too much fun!! I wish I could stay in Vancouver and keep studying English more.
In addition, my host family "the Nayani" was a very kind and comfortable. I could also learn many things from them… Canadian habit, daily life in Canada, English conversation, and so on. So I had enjoyed a good time with them.
I do appreciate introducing me them. Thank you again.
Someday I'll want my kids to go to CSLI, and of course I'll recommend CSLI to my friends.
With Best wishes,
Mihoko Kawata |
