New iBT TOEFL Preparation Course
CSLI is keeping up with the times: the official TOEFL test will be changing its format this October, and so CSLI is changing our TOEFL program. The new iBT (Internet-Based TOEFL) features a speaking section, and no grammar! In order to better prepare our students for this completely different test, we will be introducing a newly designed TOEFL class. While some emphasis will be placed on grammar, special attention will be spent on the integrated skills of Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Listening that will be tested on the iBT. Sign up now to prepare for the new standard of English proficiency testing!

Boat Cruise Grad!
To take best advantage of our beautiful summer, we held our popular Boat Cruise graduation party. At a high-energy graduation party on the grassy Granville Island Amphitheatre, graduating students were presented with certificates, and awards were given out to the best student in each class.

The Student of the Month for the whole school was Marcelo Costa from Brazil, who receives a one-month full-time scholarship to CSLI.

After the ceremonies, the entire school population took a two-hour cruise on a beautiful boat. With lots of dancing, conversation, and photo taking, students and staff had a great time enjoying the weather and beautiful views all around Vancouver.

Advanced Debating Class
With the extremely high level of fluency at our school in August, we opened a new Advanced Debating Class for the month. This class consisted of high-level discussion and debate on a variety of topics. With no grammar other than error correction in the curriculum, the students practiced discussing challenging topics on a daily basis, focusing on improving their fluency, debating skills, and ability to reach consensus.

Summer High
We have been enjoying a beautiful sunny summer in Vancouver! The clear skies and warm temperatures have encouraged our many students to see lots of sites and participate in outdoor activities. Our Friday Activities have included such outdoor themes as Horseback Riding, Grouse Grind Hike, Rollerblading and Biking on the Seawall, and tours of Whistler, White Rock, and Steveston.
CSLI students at a BC LIONS football game!
And the most popular activity was the BC Lions Football game where we had more than 100 CSLI students cheering together at the game.

Corporate Program Filling Up Fast!
We are delighted to have had such a strong response to our upcoming Corporate Program which is beginning in August. So far, employees from Telus, Hydro Quebec, Siemens Europe, and ING Netherlands, and ARTIS (Netherlands) have registered. There are just a few spaces left, and we would be thrilled to welcome more international participants to this special program. Contact CSLI at corporate@csli.com for details.

Look who's talking

Wolfgang Karsh and Angela Krenn, who studied at CSLI 2000-2001, dropped by for a visit recently:

Hello to all graduated 'students to be' of CSLI,

We've just dropped in after having had a marvellous vacation on Saltspring Island. We remember very well the time we had when studying here. It was five years ago and it almost seems to be like yesterday! It was great to see all these familiar faces (staff members and teachers) again. Hope it wasn't for the last time!

See you.

Angela and Wolfgang

We received this fabulous letter about a CSLI reunion in Europe:
Already one year has passed since we all stayed in Vancouver for several weeks. As everybody has such great memories of the time in Vancouver and we were able to meet very nice and funny people, I organized a "Vancouver Revival" in Zurich, Switzerland, last weekend.

We were 11 people that came to Zurich and we had a lot of fun talking about the time we spent together. We would all love to come back to Canada one time!!! We decided to send you a picture of our weekend because CSLI was of course one reason why we had such a good time and could make friends with people from all over the world.

It was just great!!! We have already planned that the next "Vancouver Revival" will take place in Berlin, Germany, in 2006. So if any of the teachers will be in Europe in May 06, join us!!

Thanks again for making the time in Vancouver so memorable and keep on teaching :o)

See you soon hopefully!
Jennifer & Vancouver friends
