Cosmic Grad
Our September graduation party took place at the Macmillan Space Center. Our students were treated to a hot-dog picnic lunch before we bade farewell to 70 students on the stage of the Planetarium!
Students of the Month for each class received their medals, with the top prize – Student of the Month for the school – went to Anette Schuster of Germany. She wins a one-month full-time scholarship to CSLI!
The awards ceremony was followed by a private large-screen showing of The Incredibles in the planetarium’s amphitheatre – an incredible end to our busy summer season!
Congratulations to all our graduates and award winners! |

| Terry Fox Run |
The 25th Annual Terry Fox Run took place on September 18th in memory of a heroic young Canadian who sought to raise money and awareness to fight cancer before he died. CSLI had our usual determined team of runners (and a cyclist!) who helped to contribute to the cause. At the school, we held various fund-raising activities to add to our totals, and bought lots of raffle tickets as a contribution to the fundraising. The sun broke through the clouds moments before the race started, and it was a marvelous event.
The Terry Fox Run takes place internationally every September, so you can participate in your country too and strengthen your connection to one of Canada's great heroes while helping sick people all over the world! |

| CSLI Featured in Japanese Magazine |
The Japanese magazine, Rakuda has a detailed feature about CSLI and Vancouver! Our former student Shuichi Sae, a well-known Japanese writer, had visited CSLI as part of our Vancouver Golden Experience program last May. The magazine features photos of CSLI, Mr. Sae's Kendo demonstration, and beautiful Vancouver.

| Another Member Nation |
| CSLI is very proud to add to our collection of international flags the new flag of Iraq. Hekmet Ahmad, who went from absolute beginner to a high-intermediate level in his five months at CSLI, presented the flag - which he had couriered from Iraq! - to CSLI on his graduation day. He gave a very moving speech, as he is preparing to head back to see his family in the Middle East. We wish him and his family all the best, and look forward to seeing him again! |

| Sri Lankan Orphanage Progress |
| Many of you will know that our director Lawrence Keenan flew to Sri Lanka shortly after the devastating tsunami last year. He has been very active in contributing money and arranging for the reconstruction of the Crista Illam Girls' Home in Kalmunai, Sri Lanka. Some of its residents are shown here in a photo. Lawrence and CSLI are continuing fundraising efforts to help with rebuilding this country after this international tragedy. |

Look
who's talking
Hello CSLI teachers and Staff,
My name is Arlette Avila from Mexico, and I would like to share my experience at CSLI in Vancouver. CSLI gave me to many great moments. I met so nice and friendly people and I really improved my English. I graduated December 2002. I was host student and it's amazing to give the welcome to the new students at the beginning of their classes.
I made so many friends at CSLI from all over the world, and some of them came to visit me, like Stephanie Ernst from Germany, and Erika Yamamoto and Asami Katsuragi from Japan. I got married last April 2nd and they joined me!

Thank you so much for the wonderful experience!
Arlette Avila
