Record Highs
March
was CSLI’s busiest month ever, with a record number of students
from over 20 countries. With the warm Spring weather and so many students
here for a short period of time, we made it part of our curriculum for
all classes to go on outings. Charlie’s Chocolate Factory and the
BC Sports Hall of Fame were among the popular tours that allowed students
to meet Canadians while learning about local businesses (and tasting some
delicious chocolate).
April promises to be another warm month, and out-of-class
activities will continue to play an important role in the students’
education.
CSLI Continues Charity Work
CSLI's involvement in helping Sri Lanka raise money after the tsunami
continues with an exciting project. We are helping distribute and sell
Friendship Bracelets that were made by Sri Lankans to help raise money,
100% of which will go directly to the people of that country. Vancouver's
school boards have taken CSLI's lead and will be selling them in
their schools. CSLI students have been helping package, sell, and buy
these bracelets in an effort to bring revenue to those in need.
War on Words
This months contest was our Spelling Bee, one of our most popular contests.
The final 3 contestants were Johannes Muller, Aida Oji, and Chino Inokuma,
with the winner being Aida from Germany. She received a big gift basket
for her efforts.
Hip Hop
 This
month we had a new Friday Activity class called Hip Hop Class, which taught
street language and idioms. It was extremely popular and we will make
this a regular part of our program. Thanks to Adrian and Paul for developing
this creative new program. Thanks also to Aida, our spelling master who
has also worked as a Hip Hop Dance Instructor back in Germany, for giving
fabulous Hip Hop lessons a few afternoons!
Casino Grad
 We
had our annual Casino grad party to finish up a very busy Spring at CSLI.
We all had a great time winning loads of prizes and celebrating with our
March Student of the Month, Christoph Tonder from Germany, who is now
busy working with his internship company, Parmasters International. One
day soon he will return to class to collect his one-month full-time prize
for winning this award.
Look who's talking
Hello, CSLI! from PACO JARAMILLO
This is the perfect opportunity to say hello to each of you guys. The last
year was for me really busy, I'm working a lot and really hard.
Anyway, I still have with me a lot of things from Canada, Vancouver and
CSLI. Every time when I have the opportunity I talk about my great days
in Vancouver and in the school, and I still feel the same emotion talking
about this as if I had just come back from there some weeks ago. In one
of these opportunities, when I was talking with someone about my time
there, I made a reflection for myself about how my life changed after
this. The opportunities to learn about different cultures, the opportunity
to learn English as easy as make friends, make jokes and talk with people,
the opportunity to learn about life and learn about myself. I still have
a lot of friends that I met in CSLI; I have contact with some more often
than with others.
Just some weeks ago finally I had the opportunity to spend some days
in Europe after a business trip in Dubai. I visited Kai and Sabine in
Germany, Rosa in Amsterdam, and Martin in Zurich. All of these friends
I met just in the classroom or in the coffee area or in the front desk
of the school. And I still have in my agenda trips waiting, like to Japan
to visit some friends there like Asami and Megumi, and to Korea to visit
Jason (Mr. Joker). Last year I started to do business with an international
company of medical equipment and guess where the company is from?............
For sure, it is a Canadian company located in Ottawa. All of these things
are consequences of my wonderful time in Vancouver and in CSLI.
With all my love,
Paco
