The
CSLI Practicum Experience Program
offers a unique opportunity for CSLI students to come
in contact with Canadians, become involved in the
local community, and develop their professional English
skills in the "real world."
These Practicum opportunities are available for qualified
students who have completed the Business English program and are seeking
practical work experience and community involvement to improve their English.
This program can be taken together with or after your in-class study and
requires a Co-op Visa.
The CSLI Practicum Experience is a minimum
8 week program
including
4 weeks of classes and
4 weeks Practicum.
The required level for the 8 week program is advanced. However, we recommend
students to take the 24 week program that includes 12 weeks of classes in order
to be better prepared for their 12 week practicum experience. Please note that for
the practicum program,
the number of classroom study weeks must be
equivalent to or more than the number of practicum weeks.
The companies that accept our practicum students vary in size from small to large.
Each has its advantages: smaller companies typically provide a more thorough
overall view of the company, whereas recognition and reputation often go
along with larger, more well-known companies. Depending the field chosen, there is
a possibility of
paid and
non-paid practicum experiences.
All students interested in participating in CSLI practicum/internship in Canada
must have a valid work permit or Co-op visa.
CSLI requirements for the Practicum Program
- A Co-op visa
- Proper health insurance
- Pay the Practicum Placement Fee by the first week of classes
- A resume
please note : Minimum of 4 weeks of Practicum and maximum of 48 weeks. However the study period needs to be the same length or more than the practicum.
Usually, Co-op applications are processed between 30 and 90 days, so we ask that any student applying for a practicum program, please plan in advanced to have the proper documents on time for your starting date of classes.
When apply for a Co-op Visa :
- Student needs to apply for both a student permit and work permit.(Student permit fee applies, however the work permit fee is waived.)
- Student must have a CSLI Co-op Letter of Acceptance to confirm that he or she is registered in a practicum program and that the practicum is an essential part of their studies (see attached a sample Co-op Letter of Acceptance).
- Show proof of enough funds to support him/herself in Canada.
- Students do not need to pay for the work permit application.
For more information, please visit
Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.
To send your VISA application, please find the closest
Canadian Consulate or Embassy to you.
Applications will be processed faster if all the information is correct.
Here are some tips for the application:
- print a checklist and don’t send the application until everything is completed. Sending extra documents later will cause delays in processing
- add a cover letter and inform if anything in the application needs explanation
- officer needs to be satisfied that student has intent to leave Canada after his/her studies are finished. (ie. Returning to a job or university)
