June 2000 Newsletter CSLI
is Full July and August! Classes are overflowing at CSLI this
Summer with only a few places available for half-time students in the afternoon
(including our new TOEFL class). We apologize to those students who have been
unable to register, however places are still available for September and October
(these are expected to fill also). We strongly recommend for students and
agents to visit our CanadaWide English Network website for more information on
our partner schools near Toronto, in Ottawa, Montreal and Charlottetown. They
are all excellent schools and great alternatives to CSLI! http://www.csli.com/canada-wide.htm
Visit our Student Reunion page and see why our past students think CSLI is
so popular: http://www.csli.com/guestbook.html
TOEFL Classes Now Available at CSLI:
Advanced English students at CSLI can now choose from four different programs:
Advanced Conversational, Business English, TOEIC (business communication), and
now TOEFL (university preparation English). Guest speakers from the business community
continue to be a popular feature of our Business English classes. In June there
were presentation from professionals in the telecommunications, business mergers
& acquisitions, financial consultanting and publishing industries. July speakers
include a Realtor, Psychologist, Land Developer, Venture Capitalist and a Website
Designer. http://www.csli.com/brochbusiness.htm Horseback
Riding is Popular with Students in June! This month horseback-riding
proved to be the most popular Friday activity and many students chose a glorious
day to have the first ride of their lives. Other schools charge in excess of $100
for such an event but at CSLI these are included with your class fees! July students
can choose from the following organised free Friday activities: trips to Whistler,
UBC, BC Place, Science World & Deer Lake; Greek, Folk Music, Art & Comedy festivals;
rollerblading, bowling, beach volleyball, hairstyling, baseball, First nations
dinner, oil painting, and golfing. Extra academic classes include Public Speaking,
Idioms & Pronunciation. This month's Graduation will be a barbecue in Stanley
Park. http://www.csli.com/brochfree.htm

Co-ordinator Farzana is Far-out ! Farzana is doing an exceptional
job for our students with arranging weekend and evening events. Of course she
is responsible for our ever popular free Friday activities. She also assists students
in participating in various social and community volunteer and "job-shadowing"
programs, at no extra cost to students. See more about volunteer programs: http://www.csli.com/brochvolunteer.htm

Theme Nights
and Social Events in July:

Mexican, Korean, Brasilian and Japanese Nights (dinner and celebrations) are planned
this month to honour our students from these countries and to give the others
a chance to experience their culture and food. Breaktime activities are arranged
daily between classes to encourage students to mingle and practice their English.
Farzana is organising spelling bee contests in the afternoon to challenge students
and prizes will be awarded. http://www.csli.com/brochawards.htm
Takako Egawa is CSLI's May
Student of the Month ! Congratulations to Takako, who has not only
excelled in her advanced class but she has also assisted students and CSLI during
these busy Summer months by organising our tennis tournament. She studied here
for three months and had developed excellent communication skills in this time.
