Graduation
Boat Cruise Celebrates our August Top Student:

With CSLI running at full capacity nearly 200 students and teachers enjoyed
a glorious cruise around Vancouver harbour onboard the luxurious Queen
of Diamonds. A fun one hour graduation ceremony, followed by lunch, celebrations,
awards and a two hour cruise. Congratulations to our August Student of
the Month: Hiroyuki Miyamura from Japan and his agent TN Exchange Canada.
Hiro will be receiving a free flight back to Vancouver for our 10th Anniversary
Reunion in 2002 and a one-month scholarship, along with all other previous

Thanks very much to Farzana, our awesome & energetic Activities
Coordinator, for all her creative, fun & interesting activities over these
summer months! Students had the opportunity to enjoy their free time,
as well as get to know Vancouver, through the many great excursions she
planned.

Tour to famous Harrison Hot Springs, Stanley Park & the Aquarium,
Cultus Lake daytrip, Abbotsford Air Show, Russian Submarine & Quay

CSLI's
Newspaper in Big Demand:
Business English class students produced this month's CSLI Times (the
students' monthly newspaper), together with one of our Advanced level
classes (the first combined effort for a newspaper between classes). The
paper instantly sold out during this month's graduation. Special thanks
to Luciana from Brasil, for her hard work in publishing the largest CSLI
newspaper ever! Business English guest speakers in August included speakers
from Big Brothers of Canada and the real estate market. http://www.csli.com/brochbusiness.htm
Volunteering
was on Everyone's Mind in August:
The popular activities were: volunteering with the PGA golf tournament,
daycare camps and preparation for the Molson Indy car race. Professional
positions included marketing, computer design and importing/exporting.
35% of our students volunteered this month, some winning tickets to football
and baseball games, pizza dinners and mugs from a local television studio.

Thursday
Theme Nights Prove Popular with our Students:
This month over 40 students attended each of our cultural dinner evenings.
Michelle, our Manager and Zsolt, a Hungarian student, hosted our Hungarian
evening at Spanish Banks beach which included a meal of traditional gulash,
palacsinta (Hungarian crepes) and even a taste of the famous red wine,
Egri Bikavér! Japanese (special thanks to Takako), Spanish, and
Turkish nights proved equally as popular, offering traditional foods,
dance and music. These nights are a great chance for students to share
their language & culture with their friends from other countries.
Tennis Wednesdays ran regularly at nearby Stanley Park (equipment provided
free by CSLI) with record sunshine. Also, break-time games & competitions
awarded great prizes to our students, including a Molson Indy day pass
to Akemi Sato. Congratulations on your win, Akemi and for your courageous
& fun spirit! http://www.csli.com/brochawards.htm
Rocky
Mountain Tour is Tops for Long September Weekend:
As well as our regular out of school activities, a group of students went
camping and many people have signed up for the big Rocky Mountain tour
for the long weekend in September. Regular organized tours are available
every weekend at CSLI including Whistler, Victoria, Seattle, Bungee-jumping
on Vancouver Island & Sky-diving.
