DECEMBER 1999
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and
Wishing an Incredible New Millennium to You All!
To all our students, agents, teachers and suppliers, who are now our friends,
CSLI and its staff wish you all a joyous and successful season! Your support
and friendship over 1999 will always be remembered and appreciated. We
look forward to sharing with you all the promise and opportunity that
2000 will bring.
Canada-Wide English Network is Endorsed
by the Government of Canada.
Following the roaring success at CEC Agents Education Fair, CSLI and its
Canada-Wide partners have been recognized by the Canada 2000 Millennium
Bureau for its efforts in promoting education and cultural interaction
across Canada and the world. Partners of the Canada-Wide Network also
received an overwhelming response from agents in Asia, Latin America and
Europe, interested in promoting our "Fly-for-Free" package, which spans
across Canada. Some will be working with international airlines to present
a complete air/study/accommodation package. Visit our website at www.canadawide-english.com
for more details.
Welcome Back to All our Past Students
for Our 10th Year Anniversary Re-Union!
To our CSLI students & friends: CSLI is just 24 months away from our 10-year
anniversary celebrations and we are currently updating our student alumni
files to inform EVERYONE of our big party! Now that we have your email
address, we will keep you posted through our monthly newsletters. If you
have other CSLI students' email addresses, please send them to us so we
can tell them also of our grand reunion! Of course, all Student-of-the-Month
winners from over the years receive FREE return air tickets from their
country (plus a one-month scholarship) but we will attempt to arrange
discounts (air & hotel) for others. Keep reading our "What's New at CSLI?"
Newsletter for updates each month. Won't it be great to see all your old
friends (students, host families & teachers) as well as beautiful Vancouver
again? Start planning now to be at this big celebration!
CSLI Directors Meet with Student Alumni
in Quebec Reunion
Lawrence & Lori-Ann Keenan had the extreme pleasure of reuniting with our
students from Quebec while on a recent visit to there. Much thanks goes
to Pierre Trudel for his efforts in making this happen. His planning in
bringing French-speaking Canadians to Vancouver and CSLI allows CSLI to
truly offer all our international students the chance to experience a complete
Canadian cultural exchange. This was a highlight of our Summer Program and
has encouraged many of our foreign students to visit Quebec. Our hearts
go out to all these students for taking the time to meet with us and we
are sorry to have missed those from Montreal who were not able to make it.
CSLI's Student of the Month for November
Congratulations to Myoung-Gyu Kim from Korea, our Student of the
Month recipient for November! Thank you also to his agent, Education Canada
in Seoul, for having referred such a wonderful student to us!
Santa is Coming to Town!
As always, December is Christmas Month and our FREE Friday activities have

craft classes for card and candle making! Our month ends with our traditional
CSLI Christmas Graduation with turkey lunch, a visit from Santa (with gifts
for his CSLI Student Wish-list recipients), our students' Christmas play
and a student gift exchange (everyone gets one!). Students this year will
also be treated to our Millennium Celebrations when CSLI throws its own
Year 2000 Party one day before the big event. This allows students to be
with their homestay families and all their friends when the real millennium
comes! CSLI classes operate all the way through this festive season and

be made by contacting us directly. Full promotional material will be sent
to you in April. This means one stop shopping for you and your clients
and a unique opportunity to explore Canada.

CEC Agents Workshop:
We apologize on the CEC’s behalf for the change of plans, however we strongly
recommend you attend, as last year’s conference proved to be very successful
for all schools and agents who attended. Please contact your local CEC
(Canada Education Center) or Canadian Embassy for details on how you can
be invited. Most agents aren’t aware of this conference yet, so please
take advantage of our early notice and develop a strong relationship with
the CEC nearest you. Visit the CEC web site at: www.studyincanada.com/cec
for more information on the CEC and the workshop.
Charity Auction:
CSLI’s developed a creative & fun way for students to interact, with their
English skills, while contributing to a worthy cause. Homestay families,
students, teachers & staff donate food & gift items to be auctioned for
such things as natural disaster relief, local charities, in addition to
the children we support. It is our intention that these children will
eventually study at CSLI on scholarships. Agents Survey We are updating
our agents’ list to ensure we can give our serious representatives even
better service. Please help us to give you the attention you deserve by
completing our survey. An e-mail address is very important for us to maintain
effective contact with you.
Visa Problems?
Our national association of private language schools (CAPLS) is working
with its schools to help resolve the problems we are having with students
not getting student or tourist visas to Canada. If you have experienced
problems, please give us as much detail as possible (your name will be
kept confidential) as CAPLS is working with Immigration Canada to resolve
these challenges. CSLI is actively involved with the CAPLS lobbying committee.

Canadian Visas:
Have you ever experienced difficulties getting visas (working, study or
tourist) for your students to Canada? Please let me know. As you may know,
C.S.L.I. is part of the largest and most influential organisation of private
language schools in Canada, C.A.P.L.S., and I am representing the C.A.P.L.S.
in lobbying issues to Government, especially regarding immigration and
visa issues. This is the main concern private schools have with Government
as this appears to be agents biggest complaint. C.S.L.I. and C.A.P.L.S.
wants to make the process of getting visas for your students easier. We
are researching this and would like your opinion on this matter, so if
you have particular examples of problems you have experienced with your
local Canadian Embassy or Consulate or Immigration Office, please let
me know. Names will be kept confidential by C.S.L.I but statistics will
collected from all our school members to determine where problem areas
are. We will also be contacting various Embassies overseas to find out
what their concerns are, and how schools and agents can best present their
visa applications. This way we can offer specific suggestions to you to
help your clients have greater success in less time. Please feel free
to email me back on my personal email address: lawrence@csli.com

will also be in Budapest the week prior. C.E.C.
Agents Workshop for 1999:
Speaking this week with the head of the C.E.C., Rodney Briggs, the venue
and date for this years Workshop is all but confirmed. Make plans for
the week of November 8th in Halifax (on the east coast)! This will be
a very exciting week for most of us here as it will be a combination of
possible three events: the Agents Workshop (for 2 days), the C.E.C. Members
Conference (paid school members of the C.E.C., including C.S.L.I.; for
2 days) and the C.A.P.L.S. Annual Meeting (Canadian Association of Private

in one place at one time in Canada, and a great opportunity for you! If
you are serious about wanting to send students to Canada and if you are
seeking more information, this Agents Workshop is, by far, the best and
most effective one available to you. Please consider attending this year
