Remembering Remembrance Day
In Canada, November 11th is the day we celebrate all the veterans who
fought for freedom in wars. This year we had a special guest speaker,
Lloyd Handerson, tell our students about the red poppies we wear on this
day. A minute of silence was taken to remember those who lost their lives
and to wish for peace on Earth for everyone. http://www.csli.com/
The Ambassador of the Year for 2004 is...
Every
year, we have a very hard decision to make at CSLI: we must choose from
our thousands of amazing students one who has stood out above everyone
else for the Ambassador of the Year award. This person must demonstrate
a desire to learn about all the other cultures of the world while continuing
to support CSLI when they return to their country. This year's recipient
is a wonderful man from Korea who studied with us for 12 months and was
a student host for most of that time. He went from beginner English to
advanced. He was a student volunteer with the Administration and is a
true gentleman. We were very pleased to send last year's winner, Su Sun
Kim, to Korea to deliver this award to.......drum roll, please...........
Ji Won (Jay) Song! Jay will receive free English lessons for the rest
of his life for himself and his immediate family. Congratulations, Jay!
We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Vocabulary Contest Winners
Many
students participated in our contest this month, which was to see who
had the largest vocabulary knowledge. It was a challenging contest and
everyone did very well. The winners received private tutoring and the
runners up received a gift package from CSLI. Congrats to Bettina from
Germany and Kristina from Denmark, who came out on top!

Chefs cooked up a storm!
Our
big graduation this month was one of most popular grads. This is when
our student chefs from all over the world are given money by CSLI to prepare
a sample of their nation's specialties for the rest of us to try. This
month we had chefs from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany,
Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Quebec, Saudi Arabia, Thailand,
Turkey, United
Arab Emirates, and
Venezuela. Everyone did an amazing job and enjoyed wandering around tasting
the delicacies prepared by their classmates. The winner of $100 for best
table was the Mexican team of Alejandra, Lidia, Alicia, and Daniela. The
Student of the Month Award for November 2004 was given to Masafumi Hasegawa
from Japan for all of his energy. He wins a 4-week scholarship to CSLI.
Congratulations!

Specialty Classes most popular!
In November, when the days get shorter and the students get more serious
about their studies, our specialty classes are the most requested classes.
Our full-time TESOL class did an amazing job this month. The Listening
and Pronunciation classes are always full, morning and afternoon. The
"Movies through English" class has been a challenging class
where vocabulary, idioms, and listening skills are all in peak use. The
TOEFL class is a high level English class were you can't slack for one
moment, and the Business/TOEIC classes are busy with their many projects.
Excellent job this month to all our hard working students, and congratulations
on all your high scores on the monthly final exams.

Christmas is almost here!
Many events are under way for another very busy Christmas season at CSLI.
The choir has already begun rehearsals for their performances around Vancouver
in December. We will all be going for breakfast at the Pan Pacific Hotel
December 1st to deliver a new toy to a child in need for Christmas, and
we have many fundraising events planned to help the needy all over the
world. Our famous actors and actresses are starting rehearsals for their
performance at our big Christmas party on December 23rd. Friday activities
will include IMAX Christmas movies, Christmas train, making Christmas
decorations, Christmas cocktail making, Christmas Museum tour, going to
Whistler to see the snow, and much more. CSLI will be open most of the
Christmas season, so our students will not be lonely. Please join us if
you can.
