On the runway…
In this month's curriculum, Fashion was a popular topic. A few classes got together and performed a wonderful fashion show in front of the student body. The students had to write and narrate the show, and the models did a wonderful job of showing off new and retro fashions. Other students walked around Robson Street with their teachers, applying their newly learned vocabulary to describe the latest fashions in the stores. Another subject we covered this month was Art. We took our students to almost every art gallery in Vancouver to study local art. CSLI is also developing an exciting new ESL program with the Vancouver Art Gallery for their Andy Warhol exhibition.

Lunch is Served!
As one of our free Friday Activities, students hiked in West Vancouver to the home of Directors Lori-Ann and Lawrence Keenan. Over 100 students were rewarded for the exercise with drinks and a huge buffet of sumptuous food. Roasting marshmallows, water fights, and dancing to "YMCA" were some of the memorable activities at this event. Our quasi-annual 'Harry Potter premiere' took place as students joined CSLI Resident Wizard Mark in a special class before seeing the new movie on opening day. Another event, of course, was our big grad party. This month we had a BBQ lunch and dance party on the beach, and then headed to a nightclub to dance the night away. Congrats to Joanna Nocon from Germany, who was our Student of the Month. July activities include Bowen Island trip, Whistler, Tennis Lessons, Getting a Makeover, Beer Tasting and much, much more.

Spelling Bee Contest
All students did a great job in the contest, which focused on spelling and articulation skills. Hosted by the extraordinary MC Mike, the competition was tough as so many students had prepared so well! Congratulations to our winner, Yuko Saijo from Japan, who is in the high Intermediate level and nevertheless beat out the advanced students!

Volunteering in Vancouver
CSLI had many students involved in volunteering around Vancouver this month. Some of the events they worked with were Jazz Festival, seniors' home, daycare for children, SPCA (working with animals), Vancouver Fringe Festival, Circus, Vancouver Alcohol and Drug team, Boys and Girls Arts and Crafts Club, and many more.

Dinner anyone?
This month's Thursday evening theme night dinners were remarkable. Special thanks to Martha for hosting Mexican Night, Carla for organizing a special Bolivian Night, Stephanie for German Night, and Mayu who prepared Japanese Night. There was a great turnout for all these nights with students from many different countries enjoying food and entertainment together. July's theme nights include Hungarian, Korean, Brazilian and Thai nights. A special thanks to Lori-Ann for preparing delicious food and taking all the staff to Cirque de Soleil - we had a great time!

Special Good-bye wishes!
A very heartfelt good-bye to one of our family members at CSLI: Brigitte Spronk, a former student turned administrator, is leaving us to move on to another adventure. She has been with CSLI for 3 years, devoting herself tirelessly to the school. We know Bri and her husband Martijn will always be part of our lives, as a regular babysitter of Elvis, the dog/child of the Directors. Bri will be the research and grant administrator for the Institute of Health Promotion Research at UBC. This is a great opportunity for her, as she will be using the degree for which she studied so diligently. We wish her the best and know that we will see her soon. A special goodbye to another one of our family, Jay, who is graduating after one year at CSLI. A former Student of the Month, he has been of enormous help to students and staff alike. The school won't be the same without you, Jay! We will miss you a lot!
