Ringing in the New Year!!!
Please click here to see your NEW YEAR CARD!Not only did CSLI have a New Year's party at the end of 2003, we rang in the Chinese and Korean New Year on January 22. Students learned how to say 'Happy New Year' in Korean, Mandarin, and Cantonese; in exchange for greeting the Director in these languages, they were given a traditional red pocket with a lottery ticket! Several students were lucky enough to win some money!

Lunch at the Directors' House
As one of our free Friday Activities, students hiked in West Vancouver to the home of Directors Lori-Ann and Lawrence Keenan. Some 70 students were rewarded for the exercise with a cup of hot chocolate and a huge buffet of sumptuous food. The house, located in the exclusive British Properties, will be featured in the famous Japanese magazine 'Figaro' at the end of March.! Other activities coming up in February are: Going to Whistler, Beer tasting, Wine making, Curling, Power dating, Salsa class, Hike up Cypress mountain Oscar grad and many more!

International Food
This month's Thursday evening theme night dinners were remarkable. Special thanks to Akemi and Kotoko who hosted Steak Night on January 8th, Juliana and Valeria for organizing a special Brazilian Night; fifty students from ten different countries enjoyed an evening of feijoada and samba dancing at Exotico Brasil on January 15th. As part of the school's Chinese New Year celebration Aaron and Andy from Taiwan took a group of sixty students for a special buffet dinner.

Communications Contest
All students did a great job in the contest that focused on improving listening and articulation skills. Students needed to be especially conscious of their pronunciation, word choice and listening comprehension as they described and replicated abstract drawings, summarized the details of video clips and took dictation from their partner. Congratulations to our communication contest winners: Ana Luisa from Mexico and Ana Carolina from Brazil!

Casino Wonderland Graduation Party
CSLI held the January graduation with our big Casino Grad. In addition to saying goodbye to our wonderful grads, students had a chance to win big prizes and cash at the CSLI casino.! Special congratulations to Pablo Urquieta from Chile, winner of the coveted Student of the Month prize of a four-week scholarship.

Slang of the Month
This month's lesson will help to get you ready for Valentine's Day on February14th. Here is a list of romantic slang; do you know what it means if someone asks you to "pucker-up"? It means get ready to give someone a KISS! There are many ways to say kissing: to lock lips, to swap spit, to play tonsil hockey, to smooch, to suck face, to try to make a tongue sandwich, etc. Remember that studying slang will really help to improve your listening comprehension skills.
