Here comes Santa Claus!!!!
CSLI’s busy Christmas season continued this month as students and staff enjoyed many traditional holiday activities. With the primary focus of this holiday season being on giving, many students and staff went to the Pan Pacific Hotel for a charity breakfast. Bringing a toy for a child in need, we were treated to a delicious breakfast courtesy of the hotel’s top chefs. Also, we all went to the beautifully decorated Urban Fare market to sing Christmas Carols, a traditional seasonal activity. We had a waffle breakfast for those who brought something for the Food Bank, a charity that collects food for poor people. Christmas giving came early this year!

Ho Ho Ho…
Our last graduation party of the year was our big Christmas party. After the incredible transformation of our lounge into an elegant dining room, the teachers served students a delicious traditional Canadian Christmas meal of turkey, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, and salad. Then we held our graduation ceremony: teachers presented graduation certificates to their departing students before giving prizes to the best students in each class. A special guest dressed all in red came to visit us with a big gift bag full of presents and gave each student a surprise . The CSLI choir sang their well-rehearsed song Last Christmas, and the famous CSLI actors gave us a great performance. The coveted Student of the Month Award for December 2004 went to Burcu Agirman from Turkey, a very helpful and enthusiastic student. She gets a one-month full-time scholarship at CSLI. Congratulations!

Heating up the Winter…
Although Vancouver enjoys a warmer climate than most Canadian cities, it is still a little cold for some of our students. We decided that we needed to heat things up in the school, so on one rainy afternoon, we served hot chocolate to all the students. Everyone really enjoyed having this traditional winter drink to warm them up, and people sat around drinking and joking together. We also held a Caribbean Day, where staff and students were invited to dress up in tropical clothing to make it feel like a sunny day at the beach! Lori-Ann brought in a great chocolate fountain as a pre Christmas gift to all of the students one day, where they soaked up the hot chocolate with fruit and treats. These are just some of the ways that CSLI keeps a warm atmosphere in the school!

Upcoming events
As we are all enjoying the sunshine in December, we are still looking forward to the snow events on our Free Friday activities in January: Whistler trip, Ice Skating lessons, Curling lessons, and our big graduation at the top of a mountain. Other events include our pronunciation contest, which helps all of our students from different countries can understand each other. Theme night every Thursday night in January will include Thai, Mexican, Turkish, and Brazilian celebrations.
