CSLI Welcomes Speakers from "Passages to Canada"
CSLI welcomed many guest speakers this month who came to talk to our students about Immigrating to Canada, the challenges, the hurdles, and the great time. Special thanks to Hedy Fry from the Liberal Party, and Mr. Gu Xiong, now an art professor at UBC, for sharing their experiences with us.

Great Big Halloween Monster Bash
One of the most exciting events of the year happened in October, as all students and staff put on their best, scariest, and weirdest costumes for this month's big graduation party. The winner of the best costume was Spring from Korea, who won $100 for her efforts. Special congratulations to our Student of the Month, Ji Wan (Jay) Song, who won a one-month scholarship to come back to CSLI. Students and staff celebrated at a famous Vancouver nightclub, with music provided by CSLI's own professional DJs, including Hiro (former Student of the Month) and our teacher Mark. Other popular Free Friday Activities this month were curling, picking a pumpkin and carving it, and going to get a Halloween costume.

What is your name?
After the busy summer season, we have a chance to get to know each other better. CSLI hosts different contests to encourage the students to mix and meet one another. Our students from Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Germany, Switzerland, France, Quebec, Belgium, Argentina, China, Vietnam, Chili, Columbia, United Arab Emirates, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Slovakia participated in our big ping-pong tournament. Congratulations to Luiz from Brazil and Alex from Quebec! The other big contest we had this month was "What is your name?"; All students had to memorize all the other students' names. Congrats to Yoko from Japan, who knew the most names out of all the contestants. November features the Great Debate, as well as the Idioms contest.

English through Movies!
Starting this month, we are adding an exciting new program to our curriculum. "English through Movies"; is a new program that gives students the chance to increase their listening skills and knowledge of practical English using movies! Each week, a new movie serves as the focus for acquiring idioms, slang and vocabulary. Additionally, conversation and listening activities will centre on the movie theme. This exciting new course is a dynamic addition to our special programs!
