And
the Oscar Goes to....
In
celebration of the Hollywood Academy awards this month, CSLI awarded the
students, staff and teachers with honorary Oscars in various categories
such as Best Producer (the most creative school member), Best Supporting
Actor (the most helpful person), Best Costume (the wildest fashions),
Best Actor and Actress (the most positive attitude in school), and many
more. All the winners had to accept their awards and give an acceptance
speech which sometimes led to hilarious results. Congratulations to all
the winners - keep up the great work!
Japan
Takes "Best Student"
 One
very special "Oscar" went to the hardest working student of the school
as the Student of the Month. "And the winner is.... Yasutomo Seki!". Yasu
made great efforts to make all CSLI students feel a part of the CSLI family
as a host student and by participating in all school events. He was presented
the award at the Academy Awards Graduation party which was held at a local
night club. Everybody was in formal clothes for this special occasion
and enjoyed dancing the evening away. As a part of Yasu's award, he won
a one month scholarship. Congratulations Yasu! http://csli.com/awards.htm
CSLI
Still Uniting the World
Despite the recent events in world
news, CSLI continues to pull the world together for a greater understanding
of our global neighbors. Many students are finding Canada to be a safe
alternative to other study destinations and are learning about others'
customs and cultures. Over the last month, CSLI students enjoyed the company
of others from nearly 20 different countries! These included: Argentina,
Chile, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Taiwan, Vietnam, France,
Croatia, Yugoslavia, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Belgium, French Canadian and
more. Enrollments continue to be strong for the upcoming months and we
look forward to a successful summer. Special thanks to all our hard working
agents and CSLI staff for all their extra efforts this year.
International
Poetry Day
To
celebrate International Poetry Day, CSLI had a school wide poetry contest
for students to express themselves creatively in English. The winners
received $50 cash. Here are the winning poems:
Rain
by Yuko Esumi
It is raining like tears
If I used some magic
I could have it stop raining
I could have it stop crying
Why is the earth crying so much?
Why do people make the same mistakes again?
It is raining like tears
It is raining like tears
The CSLI Poem
by Conny Von Ludwig
In Vancouver there is always rain,
English grammar damages my brain.
Reading, writing, listening,
English is very interesting.
The teachers are near a nervous breakdown,
In Iraq they count the countdown.
Crazy people in the class,
Every hope to get the pass.
A lot of papers everyday,
After school is the only holiday.
Lori Ann and all her staff,
Make fun and never bluff.
Study English in CSLI,
I hate to say good bye.
Dormitory...
a Unique Experience!
CSLI's
unique on-site dormitory continues to successfully roll along. The students
living there have created a special bond with each other even though they
come from all corners of the world. They come together once a week for
a special night when one of the students prepares traditional food from
their country for everybody to enjoy. This week, the German residents,
Conny and Sue made a fantastic typical German feast. Currently the dormitory
has students from Argentina, Mexico, Italy, Japan, Korea, Belgium, and
Germany. The students have found living in the dorm a safe, comfortable,
convenient alternative where they can make long lasting friendships. For
more information about the dormitory, please check out http://csli.com/residence/index.html
or email us at dorm@csli.com.
Students
welcomed in Director's Home
The students were treated to some
amazing Free Friday activities this month. One of them was to have lunch
at Lawrence and Lori Ann's house after hiking around in the forest near
by. They all enjoyed a delicious meal with a great view of Vancouver.
Other activities this month included a trip to Whistler, the Vancouver
Zoo, the Vancouver Aquarium, Chinatown, and many more. For full details
about our Free Friday Activity program, take a look at: http://csli.com/brochfree.htm.
