Vancouver Olympics in 2010!
It was a nail-biter, but as 18,000 people gathered at GM Place to hear who would be given the right to hold the 2010 Winter Olympics, nerves were flying. It came down to a second vote between Pyeongchang in Korea and Vancouver. In one of the closest contests, Vancouver came out as the winner. We are all very excited, as CSLI is one block from the opening ceremonies venue and we will be taking reservations now for that time. The whole school will be heading down to the congratulations party at Plaza of Nations this weekend. See you again in 2010!

Canadian Celebrations:
Although CSLI was closed for Canada Day on July 1, many students and teachers met each other at Granville Island and other locations throughout Vancouver to join in the celebrations. The afternoon classes Canada Day week also focused on Canadian Culture and History, culminating in The Great Canadian Quiz on Thursday afternoon. Classes sang Canada's national anthem, and students competed to win the Canadian Prize pack. The winner, Mariko Sasaki, received a gift package of Canadian goodies. In learning more about Canada, students were able to improve their knowledge of Canada and their own countries, as well as those of their classmates, as they compared life in Canada and elsewhere. Guest Speakers at CSLI:
Besides many of our students running into famous movies stars all over Vancouver (including Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, and Uma Thurman), we had a wonderful group of speakers come visit CSLI from Passages to Canada. They are new immigrants to Canada who are now community leaders. They shared their experiences moving to Canada, working with Canadians and the challenges of moving to another country. The students had many questions to ask them after their presentations and the feedback was very positive for every speaker. We would like to thank the speakers for taking the time to spend with our students.

Hot Activities Coming Up for July:
Now that the weather is hot and we are in peak season, we have organized many great activities for July. They include Horseback Riding, Golfing, Bowen Island Tour, Whistler Trip, Molson Indy Day, Picnic Lunch, Rollerblading around the seawall, Dim Sum lunch, Beach Volleyball, and the Folk Music Festival (for more details about our great activities, check out http://www.csli.com/brochfree.htm). For those more serious students, we have: TOEFL and TOEIC practice tests, Pronunciation lessons, Study Skills class, Adjectives class, and many more. We have new class choices during the week also, with Cambridge First Certificate and Pronunciation/listening class starting in July. More on our programs at http://www.csli.com/programs/index.html#practical

Hot Summer Nightclub Grad:
On June 26th the whole school (24 countries) went to Luce’s nightclub to celebrate the CSLI Graduation Party. Student Of The Month. For the long term students it was an emotional graduation as they thanked their friends, teachers and staff and said their good-byes. One of the graduates, Thuy Ngoc Thi Le, or Thuy as she is known to everyone at CSLI, won the Student of the Month award. Thuy was an excellent student at CSLI for a full year, volunteered as a student host, was always friendly and cheerful, and helped many students and staff. In the fall she will come back to Canada from Vietnam and use the one-month scholarship she is awarded as Student of the Month. As the music flowed and everyone relaxed, students and staff hit the dance floor. A few Japanese students dazzled all the other countries with their funky dance moves.
