Speech Contest Success:The administration staff at the famous Cirque du Soleil.
This month the students packed the front lounge to hear the exciting speech contest. There were many excellent speeches including: Quebec becoming it's own country, a fairy tale about CSLI and the students here and how one students family supported her decision to come to Vancouver and study. Rose, from Korea, won with her speech about how people in Korea believe that blood type is related to personality. Congratulations all contestants!

Important Change to Student Transit through USA:
Students traveling to Canada through the United States should note the following change to transit without visa. Please check that this will not affect your travel plans. CSLI recommends to avoid travel through the United States when coming to Canada. Visa Waiver websites:

Cirque du Soleil:
Joy got married this month also.Mami who just got married last month. The administration staff were treated to a wonderful night out by the Directors of CSLI. They first went out for a wonderful dinner and then out to see the famous Cirque du Soleil. All of the staff members dressed up in costumes and were amazed with all the acts of the circus. This is one of the many events happeningGay Pride parade. in Vancouver now, as well as the Fireworks competition, Gay Pride Parade, BC day celebrations and much more. On another note, big congratulations to one of our former graduates (Mami) who just got married last month On Vancouver Island. As well as one of our teachers (Joy) who got married this month also. We wish both of them all the happiness in their futures.

Fundraising for a Mexico Orphanage:
Long time CSLI homestay family and friend Lynn Holling will participate in a mission to Mexico. She is getting married this month and her and her new husband will spend their honeymoon working in the orphanage. They will bring much needed supplies and also volunteer their time to the orphanage. To support Lynn, each class decided to do their own fundraiser and CSLI will match the amount of money the students will fundraise . So far the events were: selling ice cream, popcorn, dinner tickets and 50/50 raffle tickets. We will keep you posted on the final total.http://www.csli.com/csli_cares.htm

Great Trip to Whistler:
On one of our fabulous Friday activities this month, over 150 students went off to Whistler for sun filled day in the mountains. The Whistler trip is one of our most popular Friday activities! Many students chose to go up the gondola to enjoy the view from the top of the mountain. Vancouver and Whistler will be hosting the
2010 Winter Olympics so it was a great chance for students to see the actual resort. For some students from South America and Asia it was the first time to see snow. Many students expressed that they wanted to see snow falling in winter and we hope that they will come and visit us again in winter or during the 2010 Olympics. This August we have an excellent line-up for our free Friday activities.
Some of the highlights include: Whistler day trip, the Vancouver Aquarium and Stanley Park, canoeing, Big Bar-b-Q graduation, African drumming lesson, tennis lessons, Greek lunch, Harbour Centre Lookout tour, Latin American music class and salsa lesson, pub night and a lunch and hike at the Director's house. Of course
for those students who want to study there will be academic classes held at the school including: adjectives, pronunciation, TOEIC/TOFEL practice class, prepositions, gerund/infinitive and a listening class. http://www.csli.com/brochfree.htm

Race Day Graduation:
Jorge Calcaneo from Mexico City, student of the month for July. On July 25th we had our big monthly graduation party in a park nearby the school, on the beautiful seawall overlooking the water. The weather was sunny and hot. There were many long term graduates, including Yasushi and Hiroko (past students of the Month) Misa, a long time student and intern at CSLI. We will miss them a lot. The student of the month for July was Jorge Calcaneo from Mexico City. Everyone at CSLI knows his friendly smiling face. He also organized a very successful Mexican
cultural night out, where students had a chance to eat Mexican food and learn about Mexican culture. He will get a 4-week scholarship to study at CSLI. After the ceremony the whole school went over to watch the famous Molson Indy race. Some students even had a chance to sit in race cars. Congratulations to Paul Tracy from Canada, who won the race!

New Listening and Pronunciation Class:
New this month, CSLI added this popular class to our list of selective classes. This course is designed to focus on two key elements of language acquisition. This comprehensive overview of the English sound system combined with specific listening activities which will aid in the development of clear speech and discrete
listening skills, therefore improving overall communication skills. The pronunciation component of the course will follow an 8-week rotating cycle.
