Celebrations
Just Weeks Away!
 |
As
flights are being finalized and students sending their itineraries, CSLI's
staff is putting the final touches on the celebrations awaiting everyone,
each of our special months starting of with two very exceptional evenings
of Wine & Cheese and catching up with one another, on Nov 7th and Dec
5th. Invitations have been sent out to our local and distant, loyal agents
over the years, as well as many new ones who have recently been in contact
with us. Not to forget our wonderful host families and the many companies
we have done business with over the years. We have found however, that
a few of the contact addresses we have are out of date, therefore if your
invitation has not arrived to you, please click on this link in order
to reply: www.csli.com/reunion/invitation.
There have also been some updates on our calendar of events for November
& December (for our alumni & host families), therefore please look at
the following page so you don't miss out on any of our exciting events:
www.csli.com/reunion/calendar.htm
If we have missed others (students, homestays, staff, agents) that you
know would be interested in this event or may want to keep in touch, please
forward them this information quickly and let us know their new e-mail
contact.
Residence
Officially Opens!
September
26th marked the official opening of CSLI's On-Campus, dormitory-style
Residence! The occasion was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony, officiated
by our Director, Lawrence Keenan and the presentation made by Ms. Amanda
Warren of our local CEC office. Our students and some local agents enjoyed
refreshments during the event, as well as a tour of our wonderful facility.
Our first residents in our dormitory have this to say about their new
'home away from home': "It's nice because you have
everything that you'd expect from your own home, it's convenient & safe
and you can develop real friendships with students from all over the world"
- Eric from Brazil
"Lori-Ann, it's just like your house!" -
Kaori from Japan
"The dorm is fun because you live together with people from all over
the world." - Gunda from Germany
For those who cannot see our residence first-hand yet, please click on

Award Winner
During
our last outdoor graduation event of the year (in our beautiful summer
weather that is), we presented Cengizhan Ornek of Turkey with our special
Student of the Month Award. He has been given a 1 month scholarship to
continue his studies at CSLI! 'Jason's' personality and dedication as
a student took effect immediately upon his start at CSLI and earned him
this award much sooner than most achieve it - we congratulate him and
thank him for being a great addition to our school! http://csli.com/bulletinboard8.htm
We also congratulate all our recent graduates on their accomplishments,
which they celebrated with a wonderful barbecue and outdoor games at nearby
Sunset Beach.
The following weekend, students joined for the 8th year in a row in the
Terry Fox Run for Cancer, after having earlier raised $1045, with the
generous help of our homestays and staff.
TOEIC:
Monitor Your Progress
During
the month of October, several CSLI students will take the official TOEIC
examination: Test of English for International Communication. Although
most of the students taking the test are in CSLI's Business English Program,
it is a great exam for any student to take in order to measure improvements
in their language proficiency. As the test score achieved relates to a
specific level, rather than giving a passing or failing grade, students
can see how strong both their listening and reading skills are, in order
to assess where improvements need to be made. It is a great tool to use
during the course of their studies and can be taken on a monthly basis
at CSLI.
Good-bye
to a Special Student
When
a student has been a part of CSLI for a very long time, it is practically
impossible to say good-bye. This is a dilemma we constantly face at our
school, but this month in particular with a very special lady - Ms. Hiroko
Maeda. Hiroko has been a part of CSLI, on and off for the past 6 years!
She is a cheerful, positive individual, who despite being a mature student,
has always remained dedicated to improving her English skills. The many
young students who have had the opportunity to study with her, have admired
her interest in being involved with them at the school and her enthusiasm
for learning. We applaud Hiroko and want to encourage other older students.
It is never too late to learn! We wish her all the best!
