Korea,
Brazil, Italy and Japan Host the World!
With
the cold and snowy days upon us, the students of CSLI did not let the
weather interrupt their Thursday night theme nights. This month, an average
of 30-40 students participated every week! The countries we celebrated
in January included Korea, Brazil, Italy and Japan. Thanks to our student
hosts for making each night a great night. February's theme nights will
be Chilean, Chinese, Venezuelan, Belgian and Hungarian.
Synonyms
Contest at CSLI!
This
month about 35 students worked very hard at practicing the list of synonyms
and then joined our popular contest to win $100. Congratulations to all
of our contestants and a special congratulations to our grand champion/winner/grand
master: Da Mi Kim of Korea! Way to go!

Amazing
TOEIC Scores this Month:
Many
students write the official TOEIC test every month at CSLI. This month
we want to congratulate one special student, Ryota Nakano, for improving
his score by 400 points from his last exam. His total was 800! Wow! Congratulations,
Ryota!

Students
Meet at CSLI Activities:
Each
break at CSLI, you can find something interesting & exciting going on.
This month we had a ping-pong tournament and a billiards tournament. The
rule is you must have a partner from another country. This is a great
way to meet people and relax during the breaks. Thanks to Daniel, Shane,
Marie for organizing the tournaments and congratulations to the winners:
Billiards - Marie & Raul and Ping Pong - Flavio & Sung Hoon. At this time
of year we sometimes have a challenge keeping our students minds off of
the weather. This month's Friday activities did just that. Some of the
popular activities were drumming lessons, tarot card reading sessions,
Stanley Park & aquarium tour, curling, being part of a Music TV (MTV)
taping, sushi making, karaoke, winter hiking, beer making, and going to
a casino.

Graduation
was Snowed Out!
For
the very first time in CSLI history, the local mountains had too much
snow and we could not make it up the mountain with our buses. The students
still had a great time with the quick change of plans. We ended up having
a pot luck lunch at the school and then rented the local bowling lanes
for a private party for the afternoon. Congratulations were passed out
to the hardest working student of each class and a big congratulations
to Marie Van Nieuwenborgh of Belgium for being chosen our Student of the
Month of the entire school for the month of January. Marie will receive
a free flight back to our 10 year reunion and a one month scholarship
with all the other students of the month.

Student's Touching Poem:
"The
red dance, the rhythmical ticking of the fingers on the piano and still
the red dance. I fix it, I admire it and the flame looks like its dancing
in the middle of the table around which we were sitting. The light seems
concerning and kissing our cheeks our visages. World people visages, of
different worlds, of different eyes. But all with the same desire in the
heart to know oneself, spending hours to speak about our lives. Who knows
in other times if this would have been so perfect stare at us, or simply
to speak about our dreams and problems. It is from the hands that I unaware,
I left for an infinite travel."
Written by Marco Bianchi of
Italy (inspired after meeting students from all over the world at CSLI)
Best wishes and
a very Happy 2002 from your friends at CSLI,
