CSLI students Return!
CSLI
welcomed back all the previous Student of the Month award winners from
2000 to the present for a month long celebration. Returning
students of the month did not waste any time in getting involved. Still
jet-lagged, they were already volunteering to organize and host events.
Happy
Hours, hockey games, disco nights, dinner parties, and waffle breakfasts
were just part of the fun. Dirk Grossmann (Apr. 2002) and Sabine
Wesley (Mar. 2002) co-hosted German
Night, Mexican Night was hosted by Veronica Gomez Conde (Dec. 2001), Korean
Night was hosted by Jason Chung (Dec. 2000), and Akiko Tokuoka (Oct. 2001)
will host Japanese night on the 18th. For all reunion information, go

Gala
a Big Success!
On
December 5th we dressed in our best and continued our 10th year anniversary
celebrations with a Gala Evening. It was an excellent opportunity to reminisce
with returning students, current and former staff, homestay families,
agents, suppliers, neighbours, and other members of the CSLI family. All
past and present staff and Student of the Month winners were awarded and
particular recognition was given to Michelle Balogh and Jennifer Barker
who are leaving the CSLI family in the new year. CSLI was very honored
to host the Consul General of Colombia, Carlos Gamba and the Consul General
of Peru, Miguel Payte. Thanks to the magician for entertaining children
of all ages and Francois Vuchesneau and Marcos Casagrande for their lovely
music. Our love and best wishes go out to all our former students & staff
who could not join us - we were thinking of you all! To check out all
the pictures form the party, click on: http://csli.com/reunion/pictures/index.htm
Special
thanks to...
Grand
& Toy, HSBC, Canterbury Coffee, Pinetree Vending Company, Hi Five Sports,
Key West Travel, and Coast Plaza Hotels, for donating gifts and door prizes.
Thanks also to a former CSLI staff member Christine Kuo and her successful
new fashion company, Moonsus for the donation of a handbag designed and
produced by them (http://www.moonsus.com/).
Thank you to all our friends for the many beautiful flowers and gifts
that added to the festive atmosphere. Our gratitude also goes out to all
of CSLI's homestay families, agents, suppliers, friends, students and
staff for attending CSLI's events and most of all for supporting CSLI
over the last 10 years.
Joy
to the World!
On
December 16th CSLI students will sing various Christmas carols at a neighborhood
seniors center. It is an excellent opportunity for students to get into
the Christmas spirit and share in the community. It will also be an opportunity
to practice before performing at the Christmas graduation party. CSLI
students volunteer throughout the year in our community giving them great
opportunities to meet Canadians outside of the school and perfect their
English. Students also got into the holiday spirit by attending a Toy
Drive Breakfast where they could donate toys for needy children. For more
information on CSLI's volunteer program, check out: http://csli.com/programs/volunteering.html
Santa
Claus is Coming to CSLI!
On
December 20th there will be very special guest at the dinner table. Santa
Claus will join all of the staff and students for a traditional turkey
dinner, gift exchange, Christmas plays, and carol singing. We will honor
our December student of the Month and bid farewell to the returning students.
Other fun Christmas activities this month have included taking a ride
on the Christmas lights train in Stanley Park, viewing the Carol Cruise
ships in the harbour, making Christmas tree decorations, and decorating
the school. The students are "Secret Santas" to give small gifts to one
of their classmates throughout the weeks leading up to Christmas. Take

Spelling
"academics" at CSLI!
One
of the many fun academic activities at CSLI this month was the Great CSLI
Spelling Contest. All participants did a great job but a special prize
went to Veronica GomezConde from Mexico as the ultimate speller. Other
activities for the students included a synonym contest and a school wide
murder mystery where all the students tried to figure out who was the
"murderer". This month also concluded the TESOL program where young Canadian
teachers learned how to teach English. For more info on the TESOL program,
please look at http://csli.com/programs/index.html#certification
