18 Countries at CSLI!
18 Countries at CSLI.
Students from Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada (Quebec), China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and Venezuela were represented at CSLI in November. September 11th events have affected the number of students from some countries, so restrictions will be placed on future registrations of some nationalities. CSLI is already noticing that business is returning to normal, with registrations strong for 2002 and expectations of running at full capacity.

Idioms Month at CSLI! Idioms Month at CSLI.
In November, about 35 students worked very hard at practising the list of idioms required to be learned and used in its correct context, for CSLI's idioms competition. Congratulations to all of our contestants and a special congrat's to our grand champion: Tobias Heigl of Germany who won the $100 grand prize!

Heartfelt Homestay Letters Shared by Students:
The focus of CSLI's Student Newsletter in November was host families. We would like to give a special thank you to all of our homestays for their extra care in making CSLI students feel safe, comfortable and part of their families while in Vancouver.

"Iron Chef" Graduation:Iron Chef Graduation.
The ceremony for November's graduates was filled with great energy, as our "Chefs from around the World" and their teams cooked their national food for the other students. Best table usually wins an award, however all 18 countries did such a great job with their music, videos, national dress, photos and of course the great food, that judges could not pick just one winner. Therefore, all teams won a bottle of champagne for their efforts! A special congratulations to our Student of the Month winner for November: Jung Hwan (Daniel) Park who worked very hard to win this award. We most appreciated his natural way of making friends with students from all the other nationalities present at CSLI.

Get Ready for our 10th Year Reunion!
Details are in CSLI's new brochure about our 10th anniversary celebrations next year. A special month has been selected for the year in which former students studied, due to the demand already being shown in returning. If you graduated 1992-1996, your reunion will be in October 2002. Grad's of 1997-1999 will meet in November 2002 and grad's of 2000-2002 will meet in December 2002. If you have been awarded a free flight and scholarship for being a Student of the Month, please contact CSLI for more details on your special prize.

CanadaWide English Network Now in Seven Cities!
2002 has many great changes in store, including the addition of our two new, "Fly for Free" partners. We are pleased to announce the addition of Educure International College of Calgary and Canadian Business College of Victoria. Students will now have the choice from among seven cities to study in through this unique CWEN program, which covers the expense for flights between cities domestically. Please visit our website for more details.

Harry Potter Mania...Harry Potter Mania.
... was enjoyed by over 85 CSLI students, as they were some of the lucky first people in Vancouver to see the spectacular Harry Potter movie. Students chose this activity themselves as one of their FREE Friday activities in November and were not disappointed by the amazing film, nor their class preceding it, which introduced them to the wonderful world of wizardry and Harry Potter!

Christmas at CSLI:Christmas at CSLI.
CSLI students began the Season by giving from their hearts at the annual Vancouver Toy Drive held at the Pan Pacific Hotel. In exchange for their generosity of making a child's Christmas special with a toy, our students enjoyed a complimentary full breakfast at the beautiful hotel. This Christmas is especially important for us, reflecting back on all the world has recently experienced. All students at CSLI are invited to write a "Dear Santa" wish letter and if they have been a nice student (and not a naughty one!), Santa may fulfill their wish and make their dreams come true this holiday season. Selected winners cannot be late for classes nor miss any exams, and a very important criteria is that they must make an effort to befriend students from other countries other than their own. CSLI students & staff will also be exercising their vocal chords by singing Christmas carols to the elderly at our neighborhood seniors' centre. The big CSLI graduation this month will be a traditional Christmas turkey lunch, hosted by CSLI.
