"Consulates Attend Grand Opening:"
Representatives
from a number of consulates attended the official opening of CSLI on June
15th. They included the German, Austrian, Costa Rican and Peruvian offices.
CSLI students from these countries were on hand to show them around our
new complex. Lavish food, refreshments and music was provided by Laurell
Barker and good fun was had as a variety of spot prizes were presented.
Our diplomat friends were very impressed with the new facilities and agreed
they are the best they have seen in Vancouver!
"Robin Williams at CSLI:"
Vancouver
is fast becoming the city of the stars, especially in the summer when
many Hollywood movie companies come here to film. Seen recently with one
of our students Jason Chang in Yaletown was Robin Williams, famous comedian
and actor. Others stars recently seen here include Janet Jackson, Jean-Claude
Van Damme, Angelina Joline and many more. What a great chance to practice
your English, if you don't swallow your tongue first! Not only do CSLI
students get to meet these famous people but they also have opportunities
to act as extras in movies being made here.
"We Bid Jocelyn Farewell:"
After
5 years of incredible service and smiles, our Head Teacher Jocelyn Carscallen
is saying good bye. Don't worry, she wont be far as she continues to live
in Vancouver and promises to be at our 10th Anniversary celebrations next
year. Congratulations to Mark Ainley and Cynthia Watson, who take over
the roles of heading our teaching department. Look forward to seeing them
in our Feature Teacher section of our web site shortly. With CSLI's growing
success, expect to see many of our regular teachers returning for the
busy summer season.

"Grad
was a Smash!"
CSLI
celebrated one of it's most energetic graduations ever at Fred's nightclub
on June 28th, where students were treated to free admission and drinks.
Special praise went to our June Student of the Month, Kai Franke from
germany who over the last 9 months has turned out to be more than your
normal student. He has been student newspaper editor, assistant designer
in the new CSLI brochure and Student Host, while studying in our Business
English class. He will join our other Student of the Month winners at
our 10th Anniversary including May's winner, Noriko Saji from Japan. Noriko's
endless energy and contributions will be greatly appreciated when CSLI
flies her and the other winners back next year.

"Ride Home in Style!"
During
the Vancouver bus strike, some lucky CSLI students are being treated to
luxury transport to and from school. To make up for the inconvenience
of having to find different ways to school, CSLI offers weekly competitions
to win a chauffeured limo ride to CSLI and back to their home. This weeks
winner was Yu Ran Kim for her perfect singing of "Oh Canada!" (Canada
Day is on July 1). Next weeks competition involves naming all the nations
flags that hang in the student lounge of CSLI.
"Summer
is Hot at CSLI:"
Additional
classrooms have been added to handle the extra demand this year. Groups
are expected from Italy, Quebec and Vietnam. Special buses are arranged
during the bus strike in Vancouver to help these increased number of students.
Air conditioning at CSLI will be greatly welcomed during the warm months
of July, August and September when temperatures are expected to soar.
Many CSLI students are taking advantage of the Canada Day (July 1) long
weekend to go visit the Rocky Mountains, Victoria and Whistler. Expect
CSLI full again this summer so please make sure to get final registrations
in soon to avoid disappointment.
"Charity
Auction a Big Success:"
CSLI
held it's annual charity auction for a local wildlife society this month.
Over a $1000 was raised because of the generous donations by the students
and homestay families. The donations followed the nature/wildlife theme
and they ranged from home baked cookies to an autographed Vancouver Canucks
jersey. A big thank you to all the students, homestay families, and teachers
who opened their hearts for a good cause. CSLI also contributed $500 of
supplies to an earthquake relief fund in Peru.
Best wishes from
your friends at CSLI,
Lawrence & Lori-Ann
Keenan
