"CSLI
Celebrates Boat Cruise Graduation & Wedding..."
CSLI
students were treated to a prime view of Vancouver from the waters of
English Bay aboard the ship "Abitibi". Over 250 students, including 60
graduates, enjoyed the ceremony on the last day of August and were also
witness to a real Canadian wedding! CSLI's former student Yoko, returned
to Canada to wed her new husband Tony, hosted by the Directors! Congratulations
once again to them!

Eliana
Cuellar of Mexico was CSLI's top student for August, taking home the Student
of the Month award entitling her to a return airline ticket to Vancouver
in 2002 for our 10th anniversary reunion, including a 1 month scholarship.
Great job, Eliana! Thanks to Canada Incredible for sending her to us.

"CSLI
Goes to the Races!"
As
a bonus gift after the graduation celebrations last Friday, CSLI treated
all its students to a day at the Molson Indy Cart motor races! The track
was just a few minutes' walk away from the school, through the streets
around False Creek. Our students (presently from more than 20 countries)
had the opportunity to cheer for drivers from their home countries, including
racing teams from Brazil, Mexico, Japan and Canada! Congratulations to
this year's winner, Brazil's Roberto Moreno! Many of our students volunteered
at this event and had a chance to meet the racers.
"Top
CSLI Alumni Representative ..."
...
Ms. Ji Young Park recently visited CSLI from Korea. She has become our
most successful alumni representative. One of the most appealing features
for her students is the restricted number of Korean students at CSLI.
Congratulations to Ji Young for her dedication in promoting Vancouver
and Canada to Korean students and for being such a great ambassador for
our school!

"Focus
on Canada Curriculum"
CSLI
students learned a great deal about Canada during last week's special
one week curriculum which focused on the diverse culture, history, geography,
industry and people found in each of our provinces. Each classroom at
CSLI is named after a Canadian province or territory, so classes researched
and represented their own area of Canada. All studies at CSLI are rich
in Canadian content; however, this week gave students the opportunity
to study the provinces in depth, as well as to have many interesting guest
speakers from the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Canada Post, Key-West Tours,
and a member of our local music industry. Other curriculum topics in August
included Health & Medicine, Technology & Inventions, Entertainment, and
Education. CSLI students met Canadians through outings to the Orpheum
Theatre, UBC Hospital, Westender Newspaper, Stanley Theatre, Yaletown
Laser & Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, CDIS College, Museum of Anthropology
and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

"Annual
Auction for Cancer Research"
CSLI
held its annual Terry Fox auction in honor of Canada's hero and in support
of cancer research. Thank you to all students and their host families
for their generous and creative donations. In total, over $1100 was raised
in the span of just 1 hour! A special thank you also to Ms. Valerie Hutton-Alcom,
of the Terry Fox Foundation, for sharing her stories and giving insight
to our students on the importance of Terry's legacy. The Terry Fox fund
raising annual run will be held on Sunday, September 16th, in which CSLI
students and teachers will participate once again. Terry Fox runs are
now held in over 60 countries in 250 locations worldwide, including Japan,
Mexico, Germany, Taiwan, Korea, Argentina, Venezuela and nearly every
country CSLI students are from. We encourage past CSLI students and our
representatives overseas to participate in your local run. The benefits
to cancer research are immense and all money raised stays in your own
country toward finding a cure! For more information on locations worldwide,

Best wishes from
your friends at CSLI,
Lawrence & Lori-Ann
