"And
The Oscar Goes To...."
In
celebration of the Hollywood Oscar awards this month, CSLI awarded the hardest
working students in each class special Oscar awards. The students in turn
surprised the teachers by awarding them Oscar awards for their hard work
in such categories as "Leading Actor", "Visual Effects", and "Best Directors".
Our Oscar graduation had a Las Vegas theme with students playing casino
games like black jack and craps, for great prizes such as Grizzlies Basketball
tickets (floor seats!), telephone cards, ski passes, movie passes & excellent
Canadian souvenirs to take back home! For April's graduation, CSLI students
will have a chance to enjoy Vancouver's great weather with a view... from
the water. Celebrations will take place on a boat cruising around English
Bay and False Creek.
Spain
Takes home the Oscar for "Best Student":
March's
Student of the Month for the entire school was Juan Carlos Durand of Madrid,
Spain. He has been a great student leader in class, a host student, and
organizer of regular events including NBA basketball games and a Spanish
dinner night . He also made all nationalities feel at home in our CSLI
family. We thank his agent for sending us such a great student! We hope
that Juan Carlos and his family enjoyed the basketball tickets he was
given as part of his award. Naturally, we will see him in 2002, with his
return flight to Vancouver and a 1 month scholarship, all part of our
monthly student of the month award. See you then, Juan Carlos!

CSLI
Celebrates Easter:
Easter is an important occasion for many of our students. All of CSLI's
students were treated to a full free Easter lunch along with all the staff
before the Easter weekend, compliments of the directors of CSLI. Included
in our fun celebrations for Easter, students participated in an chocolate
Easter egg hunt and painting Easter eggs.
CSLI
Classes and Free Friday Activities Continue Despite Strike:
Because
CSLI is conveniently located near the Skytrain and Blue Bus routes, Classes
have continued undisturbed by the recent transit strike. Vancouver's mild
spring weather allowed the students to enjoy activities such as: hiking,
playing tennis and basketball, horse back riding, and golfing. Academic
options were offered in: grammar, idioms, vocabulary, and a special class
for romance English. CSLI students learned to paint Easter eggs, make
chocolate, play guitar, salsa dance and paint t-shirts. Excursions around
Vancouver included: tour of Chinatown, Lighthouse Park, chocolate factory,
a traditional British pub, Bowen Island, and White Rock... what other
school offers all of these for free?

Agents
Fly in From Japan!
Many
thanks to Tourism Vancouver for assisting CSLI by coordinating a wonderful
group of agents visiting Vancouver all the way from Japan. In their exclusive
tour of Vancouver they selected CSLI as one of two schools to call on.
They enjoyed our beautiful new campus and got to see the future site of
the CSLI on-site student residence, due to open this fall. Special interest
was expressed in our newly designed executive and seniors programs (starting
this summer) as easy access and professional surroundings were considered
as major benefits to their older clients.
Students
Work and Study In Vancouver:
Our
internship program is in full swing offering committed students excellent
on the job experience at such places like the Investors Group, Core Group
Consultants-Civil Engineering, Counterpoint Interiors and many others.
For a more community based experience, CSLI students have also volunteered
at events such as the Vancouver International Marathon, Taste of the Nation
Food Festival, the Vancouver Sun Run, etc.
