FEBRUARY 2000

Happy Chinese New Year!
February brings the New Year in the lunar calendar and CSLI wishes "Gung Hay Fat Choi" to all our agents and students celebrating this. Our annual Chinese lunch was organized at CSLI on this special occasion and all students received their lucky "red pockets" with a lottery ticket enclosed, giving everyone a chance to win $10,000.

CSLI and Canada-Wide To Attend Expolangues Paris February 23-27.
We have confirmed that along with our Canada-Wide partnership, CSLI will have a booth at the largest education fair in the world, situated in the Canadian Pavilion. Canada-Wide and our "Fly-for-Free-Between Schools" package is attracting much interest in Europe and world-wide and we have been invited to return for the second year to Paris. Other fairs in February and March being attended by CSLI and CanadaWide include Taiwan, Russia and Turkey.

CSLI Students Take Time Out from Their Studies to Celebrate January Graduation!
As you know from our January newsletter, our last graduation was a Toga Party and this picture presents all our students proudly displaying their costumes outside CSLI, on busy Robson Street, in the winter sunshine. They certainly attracted many curious looks from shoppers! After a 2000 Olympics in true Greek fashion, students contributed to a pot-luck lunch, with an international selection of dishes from their own countries. Demet (from Turkey) and her team were judged the toga winners.

Student of the Month for January is ...
Congratulations to Midori Tanikawa from Japan,
the first award winner for 2000!
Midori has been with us since August and has impressed her teachers and CSLI staff with her English development and her willingness to participate.
See our Awards section on our website for previous winner at www.csli.com/bulletinboard8.htm

Recent Free Activities include Whistler Tour & Skiing at Grouse Mountain:
As part of our regular Free Friday Activities for February (please see our January Newsletter) much interest is being shown in our visit to Whistler, the number 1 skiing destination in North America. This follows a very successful day of skiing on local Grouse Mountain. Students received free ski lessons, ski pass, ski equipment and transport - no other school in Canada offers these types of activities free every week! Valentines Day, a fund-raising event for multiple sclerosis, Lori-Ann's widely publicised art auction, music & fashion evening at CSLI (where students have volunteered as models & staff) and our Masquerade graduation on February 25 are other popular events in the CSLI February calendar. Read more about these next month!

CSLI's Location on Robson Street Great for Star Spying!!
Several CSLI students recently had the thrill of meeting Arnold Schwarzenegger & Sylvester Stallone along Robson Street! They and many other Hollywood stars can be seen in CSLI's neighbourhood at local cafés, restaurants, shopping boutiques and just strolling down the street - even at the Public Library where Schwarzenegger is currently filming, like many other celebrities throughout the year. Vancouver is known as the "Hollywood of the North" Famous Canadian singer Brian Adams was recently in town where students lined up for his autograph.

Countries Represented this month at CSLI
are Argentina, Brazil, Canada (Québec), Chile, Colombia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Taiwan, Turkey and Venezuela ... CSLI continues to Unite the World with English!
